The Shaylene Johnson Memorial Regalia Lending Library was founded by Ethan Paul to provide Mi’kmaw youth in Unama’ki with access to ribbon skirts, ribbon shirts, and regalia at no cost. This initiative ensures that youth can fully participate in ceremonies, powwows, community events, and other special occasions without barriers.
Ethan named the project in memory of his late cousin, Shaylene Johnson. Shaylene was a passionate advocate for Mi’kmaw culture and heritage, always eager to share her culture with others. Through this library, her spirit of generosity and cultural pride continues to inspire and enrich the community.
This project is made possible with support from Colliers Project Leaders’ Community Builder Grant and We Matter’s #IndigenousYouthRise Support Fund Grant.
